POST 3: STUDENT MADE FILMS

                                                       SMELL THE ROSES!

This short film is about Social media and the impact it has on peoples life's, especially young people. its about the importance of social media and technology in moderation. The film shows a young teenage boy who sits in his home every day posting stuff on social media and flicking through the posts throughout the day.
It's a very engaging film and make the viewers think and appreciate life more. It gives off a deep message that should everyone should know and discuss more often. I think this film has a lot of creativity and a lot of thought has gone in to it.
It's set in a house, and the viewers see the day to day life the boy is going through to survive.

The main prop used is the phone. however the prop that you see a lot in this film, is the bowl and spoon, which he eats from every night.
The costume he wears is what basic teenage boys wear, just a jumper and jeans.
The genre of this film relates to drama a lot as its every day life. The cast only consists of the teenage boy. Until the ending when you see all those people offline on social meida.

The camera angles and shots are really creative, and easily noticeable. These screen shots show some of the camera angles used. this includes low angle, high angle, over the shoulder, close ups, point of view, wide shot and many others.
 what I liked/didn't like?

Overall I liked the concept of the film it shows a true message that is relatable for the viewers. however on the other hand, the beginning is very long and some viewers may find it boring before finishing the film. I like how it repeats the same thing everyday to show us how social media affects lives. The projector of social media is a really creative and innovative idea which makes the film more engaging for the audience.

                               EMILY!

This short film is about a young teenage girl who commits suicide. She goes through life feeling alone and unhappy.

The film is set in various locations as the viewers see her school life as well as her social life. The viewers see locations such as her bedroom and her school.

The main costume used on the main character 'Emily' was the checked shirt which symbolised her personality and the life she went through, as it was placed on the grave towards the end of the film. She wears black ripped jeans, a black top and black shoes. The colour black is a very dark and deep colour which suggests her as a person and how she feels. The ripped jeans also could show how the main character is distressed and broken.

On the other hand, the main prop was her diary which holds her feelings and thoughts. The voice over is likely to be read out from the diary which shows how its from her perspective.

The cast consists of Emily, the main character which was played by Madeline Pennington , and 4 other people as her friends which starred Thad Hayford, Ben Houseman, Blanca Lynch, and Kayla McLaughlin.

The genre of this film is a drama, as it's presents the audience an overview of someone's life and the struggles she goes through daily.

The camera shots and angles they used in this film are very creative,  for instance they used, wide shots, low angles, high angle, close ups and a 180 degree upside down shot which I particularly noticed as it rarely happens in films, which is in the screenshot on the left. These screenshots show some of these camera angles mentioned.

What I liked/didn't like?

This film touches many people and it shows a strong message. I liked how the voice over was her perspective as if she was reading her diary. The camera angles and composition were really effected and I noticed them straight away.
On the other hand , I thought the acting wasn't great and could be improved on. Especially the acting of the main characters friends. I also found some parts quite strong, and would only been aimed at a older audience.

Editing:

Most of the editing was done really well, I loved the speed up of the sunset and hoe some of the shots fade out into the next. The voice over was done so clear and professional too.
