PLANNING SETTING
- What do you understand by the term 'setting'?
- The term setting indicates where a film is based, for example it could be a woods, beach, city or even a house. a setting is a place or surrounding in which an activity or event takes place.
- possible settings:
- -pouring land woods
The settings I'm using in my film, is pouring-land woods. I will be filming in the day time all day. this season will be winter/spring which is a perfect time for me as it starts to get lighter, but still contain that gloomy feeling. pouringland is set in Norfolk, about 10 minutes away from the centre of Norwich. Living in pouring land is the perfect place as the woods is just down the road from me.
Another setting will be in a house in the same location, this setting creates a meaning as the audience think it's a dream
- Why are you wanting to create these settings? How will they create a mise-en-scene? How are they at all relevant to the genre?
- I want to create these settings as they link to my theme and genre of thriller and suspense as well as horror. the gloominess of the woods gives of a lonely and vulnerable feeling for the audience. which will benefit my short film.
I have looked up the location to identify any terms and conditions to make sure it's okay for me to use the setting. there are no terms and conditions as it is open to the public every day. I have decided to use pouring land woods, as it's an easy access for me as it's down the road from where I live. it's also not as big so it's easier for me to find my way round. I have also found the perfect spot to film and I can get high shots as there is a dip. Thetford forest on the other hand, is massive and it's about 40 minutes away form me which is slightly inconvenient. it also doesn't have any good places to film like the pouring and woods does.
Here I used a notebook to write down all my initial ideas and thoughts, and what I need to complete in time. I found this really helpful when planning and organising.
